Hello and welcome to the Captain's report 2000. This is basically a round up of the years competitions and awards by me Keith Johns.
Wales & Monmouthshire Winter League
Division 4 - Cardiff 'B'
Pat Mumford Brian Thomas Will Jenkins Dick Burdekin Ieuan Johns
Finished in 3rd position behind Barry Plastics 'B' and Criccieth.
This in no way reflected the scoring prowess of the team, which amassed an aggregate score of 4184 out of 4500 over 9 rounds, 184 ahead of the other teams. Unfortunately, it's points that win divisions, and the team lost a couple of key rounds.
A point worth noting is that the Cardiff 'B' team occupied 5 of the top 7 individual places in the division.
Highest Average Medal - for an average of 95.1 goes to PAT MUMFORD, who was top of the table of individuals in the division.
Division 1 - Cardiff 'A'
Bob Riddett Andrew Germain Peter Hawkins Griff Morgan Keith Johns
Finished in 2nd place, runners up to Torfaen (AGAIN).
Cardiff 'A' was the only team in the division to gain anything from Torfaen this year. We managed to prize a point out of them in a TIED match in round 5.
Highest Average Medal - for an average of 98.5 goes to BOB RIDDETT, who was 4th in the table of individuals in the division.
N.S.R.A. Winter League
Division 25 - Cardiff 'B'
Pat Mumford Brian Thomas Will Jenkins Griff Morgan Keith Johns
Finished in 3rd position behind winners Altrincham 'C' and level on points with runners up Hinckley but 2 points behind them on aggregate score.
Highest Average Medal - for an average of 97.0 goes to GRIFF MORGAN, who also finished top of the table of individuals in the division.
Division 2 - Cardiff 'A'
Bob Riddett Andrew Germain Peter Hawkins Dave Phelps Bill Phelps
They say it's tough at the top, and it doesn't get much tougher than the N.S.R.A. Division 2
The Cardiff 'A' team certainly found themselves competing amongst arguably some of the top 12 teams in the country.
The team finished a highly creditable 3rd behind winners Surbiton Postal 'A' and Addiscombe. I said it was tough at the top, and so it proved to be. On aggregate score, there was only 37 points separating the top and bottom clubs rather close considering there were 5000 points up for grabs.
Highest Average Medal - for an average of 98.1 goes to BOB RIDDETT, who was 7th in the table of individuals in the division.
Now to the Club Competitions
Hodgeson Handicap
For those who don't know, this competition is only open to members who have not yet won a club competition. Three competitors took part in the competition, which was run on a mini-league basis with each competitor shooting against the other two.
After some gauging and regauging with graduated gauges,
the runner up was CHRISTIAN SOLIK
and the winner was GRIFF MORGAN
Homfray Handicap
As usual, this was run as a traditional knockout competition. A good number of competitors entered. The final proved to be a rerun of the 1999 final between PAT MUMFORD and BRIAN THOMAS.
The runner up was PAT MUMFORD
The winner, gaining some revenge for last year was BRIAN THOMAS.
Florin Shoot
This competition was shot outdoors over 50 and 100 yards in perfect weather conditions in sun baked Llantrisant (just my little joke). There were only a few members actually keen or mad enough to shoot outdoors in the winter, but the quality was there, as was a deep but friendly rivalry, at least I hope it was friendly.
The runner up with a score of 382 was BOB RIDDETT
The winner, with a score of 383, beating BOB by only 1 shot at 100 yards was ANDREW GERMAIN
Ken Clayden Trophy
A competition run concurrent with the club championship for competitors with starting averages of 95 or below.
The winner with an average of 94.5 was WILL JENKINS
Runner up with an average of 94.3 was PAT MUMFORD
Club Championship
There were 11 entrants for the championship, and it proved to be a good quality competition, with everyone finishing up with averages in excess of 90.
In the runner up position with an average of 98.0, an average which often produces the winner was GRIFF MORGAN.
The Club Champion, with an average of 98.3, just 3 points better is BOB RIDDETT.
The Captain's Trophy
Last year, I presented Captain's trophy to PAT MUMFORD who had made a significant contribution to the well being of the club and its members over a number of years. This year I have decided to award it to someone in recognition of his achievements since joining the club, about 2 years ago. When he joined our happy band of marksmen, he already knew where to point his rifle as it were. Since then, he has performed very well in all the club competitions he has entered. He has also been very successful, both as an individual and as a team member in a number of other club, regional and national tournaments, all of which helps to raise the profile of our club in the eyes of others. He is helpful and friendly unless you are unlucky enough to be shooting against him. I think that while people like this keep shooting, then the future of the sport is in good hands. If you haven't guessed who he is by now, I shall spill the beans. I have no hesitation in presenting the Captain's Trophy for the year 2000 to GRIFF MORGAN.
That concludes the year 2000 Captain's report, I would like to extend my thanks to everyone in the club who has helped to make this a memorable year for the club, both in a competitive sense and also those who do more than just compete for the club but also take considerable time out of they're own private lives to help run the club. I hope that the next twelve months are as good as the last.
Yours
W.K.Johns - Club Captain
