The club was formed in March 1939, then as a "The City of Cardiff Rifle Club" having found suitable premises for a range in the centre of Cardiff in a building once used as the Mackintosh Estate stables. In view of the length of range required, it was decided to place the Range on the first floor this being the old hay loft. The Lord mayor of Cardiff performed the opening ceremony. A suitable photograph was taken and includes one of our present members, Lionel Dimery albeit a little younger!

During the war the range was used as a Home Guard training range, the former members of that unit going on to form their own separate Club with the City of Cardiff R.C. reverting to its pre war civilian status.

Following a reorganisation in the 1950's the Club adopted its present name CARDIFF RIFLE CLUB.

Over the following years members have represented both Wales and Great Britain in both prone and 3 positional events.

Included in the main body of membership there have been sections formed from the then Cardiff City Transport, Barclays Bank and the South Wales Echo.

The University of Wales Cardiff have rented the Range for over 25 years and run a thriving Club for the use of existing shooters studying in Cardiff and also as a starting point for those wishing to take up the sport.
